I agree. But all it takes is the will of management to do it and for the teams they’re trading with to want these players.
I don’t think any of those trade proposals are an over-pay from the other teams:
-With the exception of the Hanifin trade, every trade includes cap relief for the other team in the form of either salary retention or taking on a salary dump contract in exchange.
-Not one of those trades is asking for a top prospect even… it’s all picks. Essentially magic beans.
-Calgary takes the biggest risk IMO since, in all likelihood, at best 2 of those 5 first round picks ever become impact players in the NHL. If it turns out 4/5 became impact players in the league, it will go down as one of the single best drafts any team has ever had - which is not very likely.
-The proposed teams acquiring players are all in “win now mode” in a division that is wide open so they can all use those players. Each one seems like a good fit for each player.
