Something about the whole Lindholm situation seems off, and I suspect given everything we know, the media is being used a bit here. Earlier it was reported Lindholm wants to be on a competitive Flames team for him to sign an extension. We're now understanding he's twiddling his thumbs unsure if he should sign, when we know the situation has changed and a few guys are on their way out. So what's the story?
I'm guessing the following - he won't sign an extension with a team like the Sabres (because it's Buffalo and he doesn't have to, and they don't need him).
So the Flames are probably working something out with Carolina or others while he pretends to be twiddling, with an understanding from the Flames that he'll sign an extension with a team he prefers, while the Flames work out a deal with one of those teams (or those teams up their offer). The answer seems too clear for both sides that a separation is in order. The only thing I can think of is a mutual respect for where they both are and they're silently trying to help each other out. Just my guess.
Anything else just does not make sense. The Flames surely can't wait around for his decision. He's not a franchise player. They're not dumb.
