The draft may not be the ultimate deadline for the Flames, but once the draft passes, power shifts back in their direction.
Any time before camp, Lindholm can go to a new situation and get his 8x$8.5 in a sign and trade.
Once camp starts, all that risk goes back to the player, for both injury and performance.
I don’t see this lingering past the draft - too much smoke around it already for things to be left to burn.
