The Flames were actually the exception with Monahan and MT. This is very rare .
So rebuilds should be 4-5 years from the first “star” being drafted if you are starting fresh

Even the two 'good' teams on those lists - their star players are not high picks made during their rebuild.
For Carolina - Aho was a 2nd round pick, Necas was picked 12th overall, Slavin was a 4th round pick.
For the Rangers - Panarin (signed as a FA) - undrafted, Zibanejad - was a top ten pick by Ottawa in 2011 and acquired via a trade for not very much, Adam Fox - we all know this one but was a 3rd round pick, Shesterkin - 4th round pick
Zibanejad would actually be a decent comp for Lindholm - Swede, high pick, sputtered in his early career, traded, broke out at age 26 and just set a career high in points at age 29/30.
