When you're desperate like Lou was, you see overpays. You give up some nice pieces at the deadline for an expiring deal, you're just asking to be screwed on the contract. If I were an Islanders fan, I'd hate it as much as I would as a flames fan. Hell, even Lou hated that deal and said as much as the ink was drying.
Let's not overpay our own guys. Don't act out of desperation. Make a plan and stick with it when the easy thing to do is just offer another mil.
