Move the family wherever the hell you want after you are done. These guys are travelling so much during the year they aren’t home anyway, I’ve never understood that from the NHL players over the past 15 years it’s became a thing, probably has something to do with parenting nowadays or entitlement.

But they will make their money either way so why move? He already went presumably where the money was highest, it is not like he will get more money by agreeing to a trade. If your family is happy where you are living and the money is locked in anyway, what is the incentive to move? It would be like if your employer came to you and said “we have to pay you for the next 4 years anyway, but we want you to move to Fort McMurray for the same salary. If you don’t take it we might buy you out for 67% of what we would owe you for the next 4 years and you can work anywhere or you might work in Calgary for the next 4 years for us. So do you want to move to Fort Mac?”
