Maybe, maybe not. The information we've been given up to this point sure makes it sound like the Flames won't do anything until they know whether they've been given the privilege of adding another albatross to their pile of overpaid secondary players on the wrong side of 30.
It reeks of desperation. Like the organization has resigned itself to never being able to acquire a cheaper, younger alternative to a guy who is already not a difference maker, and will only get worse over time.
And the only reason I can think of for why that might be is because ownership has once again foolishly decided that every year should be a 'try to sneak in and see what happens' year, and has no foresight for how this affects the team beyond the next 2-3 seasons.
