$4.75 million is dead cheap for Hanifin. If any team wants to add any top 4 defenceman, that's virtually the minimum price they would be expecting to pay for him. So they would have the expectation built in that any team wanting a top 4 defenceman realizes that they don't have a $1 million cap hit.
+ the Flames can retain salary on Hanifin if they are smart.
+ the salary cap could be ging up by $8 million for the 2024-2025 season.
