There's a reason people moaned about Monahan for years and how the Flames needed a real number one center. His only skill was being a garbage man and shooting pucks when Gaudreau set him up.
On top of that, many reports indicated he played through injuries and also hid them from the training staff. This made his injuries worse, and prolonged the length of his absence, ultimately making the team worse, and making it so that he couldn't be traded for any substantial value.
Great team guy and great hair, but man oh man, overrated like crazy around here.

What is your excuse for the numbers he put up before Gaudreau?
He was a top draft pick in the OHL, led his OHL team in scoring by 30 points, was ranked top 5 pre-draft by most rankings and a top 6 draft pick, scored 22 goals as a 18 year old all before he even knew who Gaudreau was.
He then went on to play with Gaudreau and outscore the 3rd member of their line more often than not.
But sure because he had major injuries late in his career all that is ignored and he was carried by Gaudreau.
