Cap space and picks are an asset that doesn't mean you have to go full last place re-build and the team needs to do a better job of realizing that.

Backlund for Newhook (Colorado)

Hanifin for 13 + Rosen (Buffalo)

Lindholm (50% retained) for 23 + Lafreniere (New York)

Toffoli for 30 + Drury (Carolina)

Trade 4 of the UFAs. Get 4 young pieces that are NHL ready or close to it (Newhook, Lafreniere, Drury, Rosen) and end up with 4 1sts in the draft (13, 16, 23, 30)

Forwards: Huberdeau, Kadri, Coleman, Mangiapane, Dube, Newhook, Lafreniere, Drury, Coronato, Pelletier, Duehr, Ruzicka, Rosen
Dmen: Weegar, Anderson, Kylington, Tanev, Zadorov, Gilbert
Goalies: Markstrom, Wolf, Vladar

And 3 extra 1st round picks and $12M in extra cap space. Honestly I don't think the short term or long term outlook of that team is much worse.
I think you're probably heavy on the Calgary side for returns.

To CAR: Tyler Toffoli
To CGY: 30th Overall
Rationale: We paid more than this, but got 2.3 years of Toffoli, so subtract 1.3 years and the 30th seems fair value.

To COL Mikael Backlund
To CGY: 27th Overall
Rationale: I don't think Colorado wants to subtract someone like Newhook for someone as old as Backlund - plus they're looking to add in general. Mackinnon/Backlund/Newhook makes sense for them.

To BUF: 13th Overall + Rosen
To CGY: Noah Hanifin
Rationale: This seems like good value and it does sound like Buffalo is after a defenceman to finish their D build.

To NYR: Elias Lindholm (50% retained)
To CGY: Alexis Lafreniere
Rationale: Alexis Lafreniere is effectively what Lindholm was when we acquired him. He seems to not really be fitting in - but the Rangers did just change coaches. For perspective, Lindy had put up about 4 straight seasons of being a .5PPG player while Laf has put up 1 - but Laf is showing progress every year. I still don't think New York does this because Laf has so much potential. It would be short sighted for NYR to do this - but it's a big swing by the Flames, I would love this type of return.

Drafting 4 times in the first round and adding Laf is a dream scenario for me.
