Apparently the Flames aren’t applying any pressure for a decision from him.
I’m afraid that after all the drama at the end of the year this is gonna end up worse than ever.
I’d hope that even though no pressure is being directly applied, a deadline is in mind and trades are made sooner not later. But, that would make Conroy look bad in the way that “you told me to take my time with a decision, then you made it for me.”

I am not going to take the speculation of a reporter as gospel - it ain't fact until it's fact. But, if - IF - Hanifin and Backlund don't re-sign, then Conroy has to pivot towards a more thorough retool. Lindholm-Kadri-Backlund is a pretty good trio down the middle. But if you lose one of them (or two, if Lindholm also doesn't sign), then the team just doesn't have the strength down the middle to be competitive.
I think the team can trade Hanifin and carry on. I think they can trade Toffoli and carry on. But I don't think they can be competitive if they lose Backlund or Lindholm - you can't compete if you're weak down the middle. Accept it and embrace a retool.
