Died in house arrest for heresy for pissing off the pope at 77 after several health problems as a result of aging including blindness. He wouldn't achieve "greatness" during his life until his scientific discoveries were truly respected, but wasn't exactly cut down in the prime of his life. Could probably have an entire other list of people who died never knowing they would be famous and revered like Emily Dickinson.
