Otherwise I can’t make sense of it. It’s entirely acceptable for people to not believe in extraordinary truths unless presented with extraordinary proof. A President saying “there are aliens” is not proof, and it does not matter whether or not I can provide a reason for why they’d lie about that. I’d be intrigued if he said it, but it’s not proof.

President’s say “In God We Trust” all the time. That’s not proof of a God, nor does it make me (or you, Ozy, I presume) believe in God.
That's the point. He wouldn't say there was unless there was proof.

But some here would have you believe he'd do it as a hoax or a flat out lie. Folks, there are far more nuanced or plausible things to lie to the public about - economy, jobs, inflation, military spending, immigrants, you name it. And people don't bat an eye because its 'just politics'.

But catastrophic or world-changing news is rarely 'just politics'. If there was a major natural disaster, an exchange of nuclear weapons, or the existence of an NHI or life-after-death, or anything like that, it isn't just stupid rhetoric of a partisan hack spin doctoring their successes. Some things go beyond that, and NHI would assuredly be one of them.

No President - not Biden not Trump, not Bush, not any future president - would make an official announcement on NHI on this planet without there being proof to back that up. So if a president said in an SOTU an NHI exists, I'm going to probably believe them if they had reason to announce something like that.
