Somewhat of a morbid topic, but I just seen an article on Freddie Mercury and just got thinking about people who were gone too soon who would've made a huge contribution to society if not for their untimely death. The natural tendency is singers or actors/actresses, but truly remarkable people are probably scientists, physicists, doctors, etc.

But I want to keep it open because so many of these people were before my time that I'd like to know what people's thoughts of were about particular people who truly were cutting edge for their time and would've gone on to be something special (no limitations on what they did)? I thought that would make for an interesting thread.
