The jokes are funny and all, and certainly a lot of us have become more skeptical of subs (if not already), but assume you were them for a second and had the opportunity to go there and weren't afraid of tight spaces. You wouldn't know a good sub from a bad one despite seeing a nintendo controller. If some limited agencies were promoting something many don't know about, and there are news broadcasts pretty much legitimizing it, I could see myself falling for it. Not saying personally I could do that leap as I'd be terrified in a sub, but putting that aside news coverage seems to legitimize and provide clout on things. Look at scam artists taking pictures with Presidents and getting clout from that, then proceeding to do their thing. Look at silly gofundme's getting news coverage and proceeding to rack up donations beyond the need. This stuff takes on a life of it's own once publicized.
