While I do think it imperative to get this done before the start of the season, ideally prior to the draft, if the team needs to pressure the player, they may as well just move on. Nothing good comes from pressuring anyone to do anything.
I think this is more about the team having a deadline, a solid metric to gauge the risk of going into the season with him on the roster unsigned, and the guts to follow thru even if Lindholm is still only leaning towards signing.
Apart from a little piece of mind, the player really has nothing to gain from signing before the draft.
