In the end it'll be unlikely that the Logitech controller doomed them.
Unless it glitched and steered them into wreckage or debris where they got caught. But even then, there should still be pings with the surface.
Has anybody referenced The Abyss as an explanation yet?
Maybe they're kicking back with deep sea marine aliens and watching this #####show on their interdimensional tube.
