Best case of Huberdeau rebounding still doesn’t really do much for the Flames unless some prospects go on a tear. They’d just waste the front end of his contract and be saddled with a Benn-like contract on the back half of it.
The Flames could be down to Kadri as their only top six center and multiple holes in the top 6 this year and then down to Weegar and Anderson on defense next year. I just don’t see how they ice a team that can even go on a Cinderella run while Huberdeau has the highest chance of bouncing back.
I’ll eat crow if Conroy successfully re-tools and the team is better next season but it is a tall order and they need to replace a #1C as a start assuming Lindholm wants out.
Even if all of your assumptions are right, so what? Trading Huberdeau for pennies - or worse, paying to get rid of him - doesn't make any of those scenarios better.

Honestly, some of you come across like jilted lovers, just wanting to get rid of him out of spite.

And if the Flames want to rebuild, having Huberdeau on the team does not deter that in any way - again, you still have to ice a team. In fact, if you ARE on the rebuild train, the best scenario for a rebuild is to wait and see if he rebounds, because if he does, you can trade him for a lot more in a few years than you can now.

There are no good reasons to dump him for pennies on the dollar right now (just spiteful ones)
