To my mind, this suggested trade was nothing to do with moving up 3-4 slots in the draft. That move was suggested as a part of the trade required to relieve the Flames of Huberdeau's 10.5 million dollar contract. That contract will impact the team for years with no guarantee of successful return.
The thoughts that we shouldn't pay Lindholm a big contract to extend because of his age at the end of the contract makes no sense. Yet some have no problem paying Huberdeau 10.5 and he'll be the same age as Lindy when his contract ends. Lindholm is a known, Huberdeau is a gamble.
