Having guys play out their contract is not the worst thing. It just depends on the player. Well run franchises like Tampa don’t skip a beat when a player like Coleman leaves for a large contract. That is far better than overpaying for older players IMO

I'm inclined to agree with that strategy.. Toffoli is a deadline guy. Despite what the cost was to acquire him, you can risk losing him for nothing if they're pushing for playoffs.
But they'd have to have a firm date before the deadline to judge if that's the case. Not what we have seen in the past.
In my estimation, the Flames have to know if they're in or put at least a week before the TDL. That's how I would do it. Even if they were on the bubble.
