If you accept they are a contender with him as a 1C then you don’t want to lose him. If they’re better with him then without him, a deal with term is a detriment to pursuit of a cup.
Lindholm is a good player, and on a team with the pieces to win now (Canes, Rangers, Colorado…..) he could be the difference. IMO all he amounts to here is a player that keeps the team in the middle, and we as fans have been looking at that for years.
I suspect he signs here because, as you suggest, he’s probably not easily replaced over the next 2-3 years, but I imagine him being the next in a growing line of disposable heroes.
