I will eat crow on that signing because I thought it would age terribly, and honestly I think he's been more of a positive impact than even the people that supported the signing could have imagined.

He turns 34 in December, has had injury issues most of his career (even if he's been mostly able to play through it in Calgary), and I think is going to struggle to stay in the lineup if you extend him.
Sell on him now while you can and in a way it's a free asset. He's a guy you added for free as a UFA, he gave you three good seasons, and he has enough value still to probably get at least a 2nd round pick and potentially a prospect for him...maybe even a late first (Toronto at 28...). That rarely happens with UFAs signed at 30.
You need to pull that trigger and take advantage of that.

Tanev, and perhaps Toffoli, are two guys I wouldn’t mind going into the season with. I think Tanev at retained salary at the TLD, provided he’s healthy, gets you more then than he does in the offseason. It’s a risk, but that’s one I’d be willing to take.
Both Tanev and Toffoli are rental type transactions, I think, opposed to Lindolm and Hanifin which are guys that likely go to a new team with an understanding theirs an extension coming along with them. Lindholm and Hanifin are offseason moves.
