While early on there was a sense of revenge for 911, many were/are Professional Soldiers who's job it was to action the will of their government.
There is also a Professional Pride to uphold. A Pride in yourself, your Buddy and to some extent the History of your Unit. It is an expectation that when your time comes you do your job, just as those before you did theirs.

I went to a mess dinner in Edmonton soon after the US launched their operations in the second Iraq war (~2003). Everyone, there was really pissed off that Canada wasn’t getting involved as well. I was surprised because I figured Canada had their hands full in Afghanistan and I never got the argument to invade Iraq.
