For me, it’s yes adding more picks and a numbers game, but just based on percentages you need at least one of those picks to be near the top of the draft. Better odds of adding an impact player or two that way, and if you hit on the others ala Dallas and Boston then you’re really cooking.

Yeah, ‘draft elite players outside the first round’ isn’t a strategy. The Stars have good scouting, but they also got very lucky. And now that Robertson, Hintz, and Heiskenen are getting paid, those Seguin and Benn contracts are massive anchors.
