Everything oil fans (and "media") propose is something that you can't even make happen in NHL23. Every team is always going to retain to send pieces to the oilers, even on contracts with several years left. Every team will be eager to try their luck on what didn't work on the oilers (Campbell, Yamamoto, Foegle, etc.). Every pending FA will list only the oilers as a destination forcing management to do everything they can to make a deal to the oil happen.
Edmonton lost a bidding war where they were the only suitor to get soup, but now LA will or Philly or Nashville will give up their goalie asset and retain salary for....reasons?
They cannot look at the other team and try and work out what another team would want or why they would make that trade. They believe that Philly will do a sign and trade of Hart while retaining up to 50% in a deal that gives them Campbell. Why? Because they are rebuilding and don't care about cap. Oh and also they will get other cap dump pieces like Yamamoto and Ceci. All for a first rounder and maybe a 2nd rounder. Of course, if this is the move that puts the oilers over the top, those two picks are pretty much a 2nd and a third rounder at that point, since they would be picking 32nd.
Like you can't say you will be almost for sure win the cup, and then also think your draft picks are as valuable as a team that might miss the playoffs.
Oilers fans: "We are only 1 piece away from being cup winners, maybe a dynasty!"
Also Oilers fans: "To get us there we need to trade half our roster and get charity from every team we deal with to get players way outside our cap space to win!"
