In the end it will be interesting to see what Conroy and Huska will do for this team.
Conroy was a bit of a surprise when he was named as "Special Assistant to the GM", and he did pretty much every job management over a decade...but clearly he was groomed for this and was also pretty highly regarded across the rest of the NHL (interviewed for some other GM jobs).
When Huska was hired from Kelowna 9 years ago it was seen as a great hire, and a shrewd move by the Flames. He was a Memorial Cup winning junior coach with a pedigree where many thought he was "Coach in Waiting" in the AHL. I think that Huska was probably actually the first big move Treliving made after being named the Flames GM.
He ended up coming up as as assistant with the Flames and spending years in that role...but another situation where the organization has spent almost a decade grooming him for this role.
I know people will complain that it's "more of the same" but at the same time I always fault this organization for not having a long term plan, and in this case it actually feels like it might be outcome of what was long term planning.
I hope the best for both Huska and Conroy. And already welcome how open and transparent our new management is compared to how it's been in the past.
