People are comparing trading Hanifin to trading Jay Bo. IMO that is a great comparison. Both are similar in value and are good dmen.
But IMO the Flames should trade Hanifin.
Will we miss Hanifin - yes we will
Will Hanifin go to another team and play well and possible come in behind a Alex Pietrangelo type and play a role support role to an AP type and play well and possible win a cup - maybe
But this will not happen in Calgary. As right now this team is still searching and hoping their existing dmen are Alex Pietrangelo. We just don't have a guy like that, that allows a guy like Hanifin to play that role he would excel at.
Weegar and Rasmus look much better as a pair than Rasmus and Hanifin did. Move forward Imo going with those 2 as my top pairing.
Kylington looked good with Tanev, I'm ok to move Tanev out too but Hanifin might actually get us something.
Hanifin is too good and will cost too much to be on the 3rd pairing.
I get our D prospects are weak, hard to move Hanifin but he likely gets paid top pairing money - more than Weegar is getting. He just makes the most sense to move.
