The Devils have had a few top three draft picks and a couple of number one draft picks though, the Flames have had none of that... During that time period the Flames were a very good team and the Devils were tearing down their team and gaining depth through the trading of assets for draft picks. The truth is that the Devils past season is due to a five year rebuild from 2017 to 2022.

Does management or the fan base have the desire to field an awful team for the next few years to get what the Devils have today.

As for this coaching decision, I guess Huska is am qualified coach. I don't know if this core has what it takes to make a run at the cup, my immediate guess is probably not but they should have enough gas in the tank to be a playoff team. The biggest issues comes down to between the pipers and what they can do with Markstrom/Vlader/Wolf. I don't know who their goaltending coach is but I can see that being an area of concern.
