Hey, happy to help you get to the 'Pearl of Africa'!

The best time to visit Uganda is late December to late February, as this time of year is generally dry (though hot). A close second is the June to September period. Don't even think about trekking outside of these dry months.

Entebbe is the main airport there. Not a 'cheap' destination to get to, but not to bad in comparsion with other East African cities from North America. Lowest fare you'll get is via Europe and you can expect to pay around $2100 incl tax (assuming you're departing Calgary).
