THE WHITE STRIPES TOUR THE GREAT WHITE NORTH ANTICIPATION BUILDS FOR NEW RECORD “ICKY THUMP”, OUT TUESDAY, JUNE 19, 2007.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE.
This summer The White Stripes will visit their Canadian neighbours as they embark on one of the most ambitious tours undertaken by any international artist. The 18 date tour of Canada touches down in all 10 provinces, as well as the Yukon, Nunavut and Northwest Territories. Dates are listed below.
“Having never done a full tour of Canada, Meg and I thought it was high time to go whole hog. We want to take this tour to the far reaches of the Canadian landscape. From the ocean to the permafrost. The best way for us to do that is ensure that we perform in every province and territory in the country, from the Yukon to Prince Edward Island. Another special moment of this tour is the show which will occur in Glace Bay, Nova Scotia on July 14th, The White Stripes’ Tenth Anniversary.” - Jack White
This extensive tour is in support of The White Stripes new album, ICKY THUMP, which will be released Tuesday, June 19th. Icky Thump finds the duo of Jack and Meg Whiteever-changing, yet still remaining in their “little red box.” Icky Thump is a sonically thick, modern sounding record which reveals its roots in American folk music at every turn. As the opening notes kick off the album, the listener knows he/she is in for an untypical-as-typical White Stripes ride. Recorded at the Blackbird Studio in Nashville, Icky Thump is the most sonically bombastic record The White Stripes have made to date. The album’s lead single and title track was delivered to Canadian Radio on Wednesday and was immediately picked up by more than a dozen influential rock stations.
