Huska is no longer the flavour of the week as Love is. Love only got the gig becuase Huska was ready to make the jump out of the AHL or the Flames risked losing him. But that was years back and there are short memories with impatient Flames fans.
To promote someone else internally to leapfrog Huska wouldn't make a ton of sense if your playing the internal promotion game for qualified candidates. Huska is much more adapted to coaching in the NHL after being in the league now and seeing what he's seen with NHL millionaire players on the ice and in the room and , than Love is.
So, it makes sense in that regard, but Flames haven't had good luck with the good guy assistants taking over the bench after the mean guy left (Playfair after Sutter, GG after Hartley and Ward after Peters).
