Ha. Oh god. Yeah, I'm sure Brady would have been perfectly happy to sign long-term if they told them they were not planning on being competitive during his contract.
These guys signed because Ottawa saw their core and wanted to keep it together by making a commitment to win now. Whether it works out or not, we'll see.
And yeah, they probably could have made no commitment and signed these guys because they had their rights and could force them into a contract in order to play. And (those that have them) could exercise their arbitration rights and end up in Florida in the last year of being an RFA.
Instead Ottawa committed to building around them, and they committed to Ottawa. The idea that you think all these players don't care about their team winning or not though is pretty absurd.
