I actually think they both honestly told Treliving a deal would be done to extend at the end of the last contract. That includes Tkachuk. But events and life came at them and they changed their minds. Tkachuk’s contract that he received in 2019 looks a lot like what he would have gotten midway through a 7 year deal. So he and Treliving seem to have cut a deal which was possible at the time and laid the groundwork for the extension. And then Tkachuk didn’t extend.

Agreed, I don't think it is as cut and dried as they wanted to leave all along, I think it is more situational and reacting to circumstances as they change.
