From an article published a few weeks ago, it doesn't sound like Savard is interested in being an assistant. https://windsorstar.com/sports/spitf...re-nhl-options
Quote:
In his first season with the Spitfires, Savard guided the club to a Western Conference title and to within a game of an OHL title a year ago.
After the season, Savard was contacted by several NHL teams and rumours had him connected to several clubs. In the end, the only options offered to him were as an assistant coach at the NHL level and he opted to return to Windsor.
“I don’t want to really fall into that assistant coaching category, unless it makes total sense to me and there’s going to be (a future head coaching) opportunity,” Savard said. “NHL level, I’m not really into the AHL (American Hockey League) level. I’d rather come back here. This is a great organization and I love working here.”
Despite a first-round upset this season, Savard did guide the team to the top of the Western Conference standings again. He boasts an 88-35-8-5 regular-season record in two seasons with the Spitfires, which is a .695 winning percentage.
Not surprising, he’s already drawing interest from teams with the NHL season not yet wrapped up.
“I’ve been getting talked to a lot already, I won’t lie,” Savard said. “There’s some stuff in the fire right now, but, again, I want to be a head coach.”
