I wouldn't have less faith in Vladar/Wolf than I would Markstrom/Wolf. There was not real consequential difference between Markstrom and Vladar last season and Vladar is young and is likely still on the upswing, not to mention, $3+ million cheaper.
For all those saying that goalies are voodoo and all that, the same thing applies to Vladar. He is from the same class as other goalies like Hill, Vejmelka, and Montembeault (all 3 drafted in succession) and could be the next one to take a big step forward if given more rope.
There is no guarantee that Markstrom bounces back. But look at Bobrovsky, right? Sure, but there are numerous examples of goalies that actually do fall off the map and never rebound. It's probably more common for 30+ year old goalies who fall off the map to disappear into obscurity than it is for them to suddenly lead a team to the Stanley Cup finals.
Having said all that, I recognize that trading Vladar is way easier than trading Markstrom, which would be nearly impossible. Just saying, I think trading Vladar is more likely to look bad in the future compared to trading Markstrom. Just because the occasional goalie comes back from the dead, doesn't mean they all do.
