The thing is that it is more than just about the government, it is also the environment that the government brings. Governments that lean to the side of bigots and racists encourage that type of person to come forward and be more prominent. Look at the US, Trump came in and encouraged that type of person and now they are running rampant. We are seeing that here as well, not to the level of the US thankfully, but it is growing.
Lots of people see this happening and want to get away from it. We don't want to be around people that look at states like Florida and Texas and say "Yeah, this is what I want here." When this happens it creates a big divide between people and there is much less respect for other people.

And yes this is happening in other provinces as well, but it does not seem to be anywhere at the level we are seeing it here.
