Rachel could have easily won this election by moving slightly to the right, no new taxes and measures to attract outside investment.
As a staunch conservative she would have even got my vote.

That isn’t a defence of the policy. It’s a the other guy would have been worse which now that Smith is elected is not a reasonable argument anymore.
What’s funny is that as a result of this referendum policy the only taxes that can ever be raised are taxes on minorities and businesses. Any tax increase on the middle class will be rejected. Raising the rate on the 350k plus crowd to 25% or the non small business tax rate to 11% to fund Xxxx probably passes.
