This isn’t meant to defend Danielle Smith, but rather an observation of politics in the western world in the age of YouTube, twitter, and other social media platforms. It’s now a campaign strategy to say inflammatory stupid crap to try and get profile to mobilize the crazy / fringe / non voter vote and so long as there isn’t a ‘straight’ candidate on the same side of the spectrum the non-crazies are forced to still vote for them. I suspect that personalities like Lauren Boebert, AOC, Iilhan Omar, Marjorie Taylor Greene, all do their acts for similar reasons.
I follow North Carolina congressman Democrat Jeff Jackson who has a big following on social and he said something a month or two ago that one thing he noticed is that all the big crazy ‘personalities’ seem to only act that way in sessions that are in front of TV cameras and actually are quite sane when the cameras aren’t rolling for committee sessions etc.
Here’s hoping for Alberta’s sake that it’s something similar for Danielle Smith.
