I think ten Hag is pragmatic enough to play the team that gives him the best chance at winning, and if there had been a better option than Martial, he would have given that a shot. I also think ten Hag will drop Martial like a hot potato as soon as he gets his hands on a new striker. But in 22/23, he probably persisted with Martial because he was still the best option, sad as that is.
