Another assumption is that Keller wants out and the Coyotes want to move up in the draft. Also, this allows Columbus to trade for Lindholm without dropping out of the top ten picks in the 2023 draft.
To Columbus:
- Extended Lindholm (from calgary)
- 6th overall pick (from Phoenix)
To Calgary:
- Clayton Keller (from Phoenix)
- 12th overall pick (from Phoenix)
To Arizona:
- 3rd overall pick (from Columbus)
- 16th overall pick (from Calgary)
- 34th overall pick (from Columbus)
- 48th overall pick (from Calgary)
- Conditional first round pick in 2024 (from Columbus)
I know it looks like Calgary is getting Keller and moving up in the draft without paying anything to Arizona but if you look at it as Calgary getting Columbus’s 2024 first round pick and 2023 2nd round pick then and flipping that to Phoenix while also allowing Phoenix to get into the top 3 in the draft, I think it makes more sense.
Columbus:
Pros: Get the centre they want for Gaudreau and still get to pick in the top 10 of this draft.
Cons: give up a high second round pick this year and lottery-protected first round pick next next year.
Calgary:
Pros: gets a replacement player for Gaudreau that is signed for 5 more years and doesn’t have to pay a first round pick for him. Moves up 3 spots in this years draft.
Cons: Loses its top centre (and overall better player than Keller). Gives up their second round pick in this draft.
Arizona:
Pros: moves into the top 3 in this draft. Gets a first round pick next year and two second round picks this year for a player that is rumoured to want out due to the circumstances in Arizona right now.
Cons: loses their best player that is on their current roster who just had a career year. Drops down 4 spots with their second pick in the first round (from 12th to 16th).
