I don't know what a fireworks show costs, but I'm guessing in a few hundreds of thousands range considering all security measures, staffing, traffic control and other crap. All for a 15-min look in the sky. If they had the wits to announce cancellation for this simple reason, I think that most people would not even care to notice it as they are deep asleep by the showtime anyway. Personally, I would have said "good riddance" myself. It's the stupid "in the spirit of..." that caused so many to say "are you f...n serious???"
