The Blues went on a tear after Berube took over and were the best 2nd half team in the league that season so not really a surprise the went on to win the cup. It really looks to me if the goal is to win a Stanley Cup you need to build an elite team as maybe the Panthers will win the cup this year but it won't be repeatable and I would expect the Avs (Stanley Cup hangover) and Lightning (playoff fatigue) to be back next season.

The fact that the playoffs are so unpredictable is exactly why you want to position your team and core for as many cracks at it as possible. The best team doesn't always win, but there are certainly a lot of familiar teams in the finals every year.
