Even if you want to look at specific numbers, the graph shows the Flames as having the 15th best expected goals for and the 4th best expected goals against (an average rank of 9.5 aka top 10 team in the NHL and much better than the Jets & Preds).

You said one of the unluckiest seasons in the last 20 which isn't wasn't.
Medicore goaltending and a poor offence with a team playing risk averse hockey doesn't make us unlucky.
15th in expected goals and 17th in actual goals places them right in line with what they produced.
