This is true, but I think the reason AGMs are allowed to interview is not based on the confidential knowledge they hold (or don't hold), but rather the convention is to not stand in the way of a promotion for those individuals.
AGMs seem to have the green light to interview for GM jobs, but I am not so sure that is the case for GMs interviewing for GM jobs.
No inside knowledge, just an observation I was going to make when this became a discussion point.
