The benefit is, for example, with Sutter getting fired, he's still under contract. They still have to pay him for the next 2 years or whatever the contract was.


If the person gets hired by another organization, then you don't have to pay him, although I seem to recall that if say, New York hired him and paid him less, the Flames would be on the hook to makeup the shortfall.


Also, I do believe the person has to make an attempt to get hired, although I could be wrong. In which case Sutter might not get paid.
