They will likely bridge Bouchard with a deal that takes him right to free agency. They can’t afford to pay him enough to sign him long-term. But that will take up most of that cap space even as a bridge deal.
They don’t care what happens after the next 3 years because by then they will likely have lost McDavid and Draisaitl. They will be back to square one chasing draft lotteries until the next “generational” talent comes along. Those seem to come along every 10 years so that means the next one should be in 2033. So they likely finish at the bottom of the league from 2026 to 2035ish.
