I debated putting this in the series thread, or in the post game thread, but this is so much fun.

The Oilers are out, done, finished. They accomplished less this year then last, and were exposed by Vegas.

Was McDavid good in this series? Sure on the PP he was exceptional throughout the playoffs. But if you look at his time even strenght, in 12 games he had 3 goals 8 assists and was a -1. So he really didn't do "Great" work at even strength. McDavid was better last year in the playoffs.

Draisiatl was pretty fabulous. In fact I would argue that he dragged the Oilers through two rounds. But like last year against Colorado, whether he wore out. Or maybe looked around the dressing room and said F it and shut it down, Draisiatl was a non factor in the last 3 games of the series.

Bouchard even strength 2 points and a -4. Sure again he's good on the pp, but he can't be trusted with mid or top pairing minutes, and his skating is still terrible. But he's up for da big money.

RNH even strength 1 goal 2 points, -6 in 12 games. Oh Edmonton, you got the dud RNH in the playoffs.

The most delicious. Evander Kane. 6 points in 12 games and a -1. All he did was take stupid penalties, and he took a lot with 42 minutes in 12 games. He actually hurt the Oilers.

Their bottom 6 was dire. look at Yamamoto, his slide continues.

Nurse for 9 million they got nothing, 4 assists and a -1 in 12 games.

But we know its not the Oilyaz power forwards fault, not McSavior who was ordinary except on the man advantage (really expensive pp specialist remember) or Draisiatl, who threw his hands up and vanished in the last 3 games.

It had to be the goaltending right? Ryght? Skinner was awful throughout the playoffs he had a near 4 gaa in the final round and was yanked 3 times. But coach Puglsy Adams went back to him again and again as if he was determined to destroy a rookie goalie for the memes. But lets be honest, the Oilers didn't help the kid at all with their run around in their own end like the chicken man in Kids in the hall skits. He could have gone with Campbell who was good in spurts. But Campbell is a basket case and can't be trusted.

Pugsly got badly outcoached, he kept rolling out the Yamamoto Draisaitl line against Eichel, even though it was clear that it wasn't a good line match. He didn't pull the trigger on a goaltending change when it was clear that Skinner wasn't up for it, and the team needed the shock of a change.

But this is a hiccup right, according to Sportsnet, vroom vroom the Oilyaz are on the way. According to McDavid you have to lose to win right?

The Oilers have 17 players under contract with about 6 million in cap space. Mcledo and Kostin are up for new deals that could eat at least a couple of mil off of their budget contracts. PP specialist Bouchard is up for a new deal and it ain't gonna be cheap. As one dimensional as he is. His agent will clear his throat and tap his pencil on the regular season stat line.

The Oilers need to trade Yamamoto and Campbell badly, but is anyone going to take them, and you still need to replace that cap. Do they have anyone coming up that can replace them on cheap entry levels. Who knows shrug.

BTW next year has to be the year that they go all in. Why? because the year after that is Draisaitl's last year, and he isn't giving discounts.

Also this core isn't getting younger. But older. Draisaitl I think will be 28 next year, Draisaitl 27 RNH 31, Kane 32, Nurse 29.

They need to move Nurse, I don't know how, but he's an anchor, he was underwhelming in the playoffs, often out of position, and he just didn't do anything. Teams can't afford to have a 9 million dollar basically second pairing blueliner.

I've also said that they should trade Draisaitl to deepen their roster. But maybe I'm wrong on it, maybe they should trade a 12.5 million dollar power play specialist and really bring in a haul.

Its going to be a long off season of cap crunches, trades and Bobby burgers.

Delicious.

Oh PS

The excuses of officiating and league bias by Oiler fans are ridiculous. When they're putting up videos of every single missed infraction against the Oilers, while not putting up every single missed infractions against the Knights, it comes across as childish and whiny. Hey its the playoffs, the barrier is higher for penalties. Deal with it. If you can't play 5v5 in the playoffs, you're lucky to get to the second round.

The latest. Look at those cap cheating knights, wah, we were cheated. Coming from the team that had a mystery career ending injury for a goalie that they ironically really could have used is hilarious. Add on a large contract suddenly retiring for a probably really highly paid job as a janitor who never shows up is a rich justification for loss.

In confusion you're honor. The Oilers are guilty of being the worst team in the playoffs, a fluke team that got a battered Kings team in the first round and barely survived and then got punched in the face hard in the second round. A team your honor that made the playoffs on a hot streak where everything went right. A terribly built hockey team with a hot powerplay. They are the Star Trek Discovery of the NHL.
