Thing that amazes me is how come they even have a "promotions and marketing" budget. Seems to me that most people will see the movie regardless of all the advertising. All they needed was a couple of posters for each theater.
it wont necessarily have to break box office. Box office only normally takes into account domestic (north american) pull. Also, a movie like spiderman is gonna have so much murchandising etc associated w/ it, it should have no problem breakign even. Often in times like this the pull from merchandise is so great taht the movie is essentially a long commercial (from a business point of view).

I dont think any of the executives who were responsible for this are worried about making money.
