I can confirm that he had to wait until later in the Free Agency period to sign with the Flames. I realize that is a bit of an assumption that it was because teams didn't want to sign him rather than him having multiple offers for 7 years at the price we signed him to but that is hard to believe.
As you say teams didn't have the space to sign him to that deal, they still don't have the space to add him at that price. We had to pay someone to take a contract to fit him in.
What do you think has changed since last summer that teams will want to fit Kadri in at his price and term after the season he just had? He was signed to the absolute top end price and top end term for his ability, probably over the price and term that a player of his ability should get.
I am sure there are plenty of teams interested in Kadri the player alone, I would wager their are zero teams interested in Kadri and a 6 year contract with 42 million remaining on it.
