If you step back from the team for a moment as well...what would they be accomplishing by locking in a lot of these looming free agents?
This team has accomplished nothing with these players. Individually they can be viewed as good pieces/players, but collectively it's a bad team. There's a decent amount of speculation of issues inside the locker room and that things between players aren't great...so why should the Flames be looking to keep things together?
Build something new. Even if they don't go down my desired scorched Earth rebuild, this team has shown it's not worth maintaining - so I don't think we should be doubling and tripling down on massive contracts to players entering age ranges where things begin to get iffy.
